Chicago Performance Of "Hamilton" Disrupted, Man Arrested

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 56-year-old man was arrested Saturday night, after disrupting a Chicago performance of "Hamilton," and refusing to leave the theater.

Police said John Palmer was charged with trespassing after he caused a disturbance Saturday night at PrivateBank Theatre, and refused to leave when the staff asked him to.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Palmer started shouting profanities and political statements after the cast sang the line "Immigrants, we get the job done," during the song "Yorktown (The World Turned Upside Down)."

The disturbance came one day after Vice President-elect Mike Pence was booed before the start of a "Hamilton" performance in New York. At the end of that show, star Brandon Victor Dixon – who plays Vice President Aaron Burr – read a statement to Pence, thanking him for attending, but noting "we are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us."
"We truly hope this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and work on behalf of all of us," Dixon added.

Pence has said he wasn't offended by the cast expressing their views.

"I'll leave to others whether it was the appropriate venue to say it," he told CBS "Face the Nation" on Sunday. "But I want to assure people who were disappointed in the election results, people who are feeling anxious about this time in the life of our nation, that President-elect Donald Trump meant exactly what he said on election night, that he is going to be the president of all the people of the United States of America."

Trump had a much harsher view, as he angrily tweeted the cast of "Hamilton" should apologize.
