Firefighter Hurt In Armour Square Blaze

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Chicago firefighter was taken to the hospital late Monday morning, after responding to a blaze at a townhouse in Armour Square.

The fire started around 10:45 a.m. in the 200 block of West 25th Street, in a two-story townhome building.

Heavy smoke could be seen coming from the roof of the building, and crews were using tower ladder trucks to pour water on the building.

According to the Fire Department, all residents of the townhome were accounted for, but one firefighter was taken to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center in fair to serious condition.

Crews appeared to get the fire under control by 11:10 a.m.

The city's Department of Health and Human Services was contacted to provide assistance to one adult and one child who live in the building.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
