OEMC Reminds Residents To Take Precautions During Cold Weather

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Residents should prepare for cold temperatures and snowy conditions by having emergency kits ready for homes and vehicles, according to a statement from the Office of Emergency Management and Communications.

Services during the winter months are provided to help residents avoid health emergencies during extreme temperatures, OEMC said.

"As we have seen with recent weather emergencies here in Chicago, dealing with extreme weather is not just preparing for an emergency situation, but also having a plan of action in responding and recovering from that situation," said OEMC First Deputy Director Rich Guidice in the statement.

The City of Chicago works with the National Weather Service to monitor the weather and prepare for extreme conditions, OEMC said.

Motorists should be aware of the overnight winter parking ban that will begin Dec. 1 and last until April 1, according to OEMC.
