Someone Is Booby-Trapping Dog Treats In The Far West Suburbs

(CBS) -- Dog owners in the far western suburbs are watching their pets and lawns closely because someone is wrapping pet treats around metal objects like nails.

Who would do that? CBS 2's Dana Kozlov reports from Hampshire.

On foot, door to door, Hampshire police officers canvas Lakewood Crossing-

They're trying to learn more about who would wrap nails in meat and peanut butter and leave them on the ground in this dog-filled neighborhood

Dog walker Ashley Cota says a neighbor's dog got a hold of one Friday night. Fortunately, the owner was able to take away the booby-trapped treat.

Another neighbor found one on a sidewalk a block over the next day.

Hearts4Animals, a no-kill shelter in nearby Huntley, put warnings online to make other dog owners aware of what's happened.
