House Fire In Austin Leaves 7 Displaced

CHICAGO (CBS) — A fire engulfed two homes early Saturday in South Austin, leaving several people displaced.

A fire started on the back porch of a two-story apartment building in the 800 block of LeClaire Avenue around 12:20 p.m. The fire spread and severely damaged the neighboring two-story apartment, leaving at least seven people displaced.

Firefighters received a call of a fire around 12:20 p.m. Crews battled flames of both two-story apartment buildings, breaking windows to contain the fire. The task took almost 40 minutes, with the fire being stuck out at 12:57 p.m.

In the end, there were no injuries reported to firefighters or residents. Seven people, including children were displaced between the two buildings.

A resident told CBS 2 that social security cards and other documents are some of the most important things he lost. A resident of the second house mentioned that Christmas presents for his daughter are gone too.

American Red Cross were on the scene helping families.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
