Two Killed, 18 Wounded In Chicago Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two men were killed and at least 18 other people have been wounded in shootings across the city since Friday evening, according to Chicago Police.

The most recent fatal shooting happened just after 3 a.m. Sunday when a man was shot to death in a restaurant in the Parkway Gardens neighborhood on the South Side.

Officers responding to a call of shots fired found the 23-year-old unresponsive inside a fast-food restaurant in the 6500 block of South King Drive, police said. He was shot in the face and pronounced dead at the scene.

About an hour earlier, a 22-year-old man was gunned down in the South Side Englewood neighborhood.

The 22-year-old was standing with a group of people about 2 a.m. in the 7300 block of South Yale when gunfire erupted and he was shot multiple times in the neck, police said. A friend took the man to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead.

The Cook County medical examiner's office did not immediately provide information on either fatality Sunday morning.

The most recent non-fatal shooting happened about 3:30 a.m. Sunday in the Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side. A 29-year-old man was standing outside in the 1200 block of South Avers when he heard gunfire and realized he'd been struck, police said. He later showed up at Mount Sinai Hospital with gunshot wounds to the face and arms. His condition was stabilized.

About 11:30 p.m. Saturday, two people were wounded in a Hermosa neighborhood shooting on the Northwest Side.

The 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man were walking in the 4000 block of West Cortland when someone walked up behind them and fired shots, police said.

The boy was shot in the back and taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital. The man suffered a graze wound to the back and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

At least 15 other people were wounded in shootings between 6 p.m. Friday night and 4:30 p.m. Saturday, according to police.
