No One Hurt In Palatine Dryer Fire

CHICAGO (CBS) -- No one was injured after a dryer caught fire Wednesday in the garage of a Palatine home.

About 10:45 p.m., firefighters were called to a report of a dryer fire at the 1100 block of South Parkside Drive, according to a statement from the Palatine Fire Department. Just five minutes later, crews arrived and saw light smoke coming from the garage of the two-story home.

Firefighters entered the home with a dry chemical fire extinguisher and aggressively attacked the fire coming from the dryer, the fire department said. They also stretched a supply line to a nearby fire hydrant and searched for anyone inside the home. The fire was declared under control at 10:54 p.m. but firefighters continued to ventilate smoke and fire gases for some time afterwards.

Investigators have determined that the cause of the fire was an accumulation of dryer lint at the base of the gas dryer, the fire department said.

The fire was fought by 23 firefighters staffing three engines, two ladder trucks, one rescue squad and three ambulances.

Damage estimates were not available.
