Cubs Sign Reliever Koji Uehara To 1-Year Deal

(CBS) The Cubs have bolstered their bullpen, signing 41-year-old right-handed reliever Koji Uehara to a one-year deal.

Uehara has 93 saves and a career 2.53 ERA sine arriving in the big leagues back in 2009. His 0.86 WHIP is the lowest of any pitcher with at least 400 career innings.

Uehara broke into the big leagues with Baltimore in 2009 and has since pitched with the Rangers and Red Sox, for whom he had a 3.45 ERA in 50 appearances last season.

In 2013, Uehara was named MVP of the ALCS and later recorded the final out of the Red Sox's World Series championship.

The Cubs also upgraded their bullpen this offseason by trading for closer Wade Davis and signing left-hander Brian Duensing.
