More Snow, Then Wicked Cold Moving Into Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A winter weather advisory has been issued with more snow in the forecast for Friday, then wickedly bitter cold to follow over the weekend.

The advisory is in effect from noon Friday to 6 a.m, Sunday.

CBS 2's Ed Curran and Steve Baskerville say the snow should start as early as Friday afternoon and the afternoon rush hour will "take a hit."

The snow is expected to be fluffy and pile up quicky. Six to eight inches of snow in northern subrurbs and southern Wisconsin is possible.

Then, on Saturday morning, warmer air could cause a mix of precipitation.

Here is a look at several models, depending on the line of the heaviest snow.

Model 1: 6 to 8 inches along the Wisconsin line. 4 to 6 inches in north subrubs, 2 to 4 inches in southern.
Model 2: 6 to 8 inches north and 4 to 6 inches south.
Model 3: 6 to 8 inches north and 3 to 6 inches south.
Model 4: 6 to 10 inches north and 2 to 4 inches south.
NWS: 6 to 8 inches along Wisconsin line. 4 to 6 inches elsewhere north and 2 to 4 inches south

Temperatures plummet on Saturday night, with winds that will create near blizzard criteria as the dry snow on the ground begins blowing.

A northwest wind of about 30 mph and temps in the single digits give us a wind chill of minus 20 or lower in the outlying areas.

By Sunday evening, places like DeKalb and LaSalle Counties could drop to minus 15 and Chicago could be at minus 10. That's the real temperature.
