'Wayne's World' Set Recreated In Aurora, Illinois

(CBS) – It's party time in Aurora. The Illinois river town is celebrating 25 years of "Wayne's World" by re-creating the infamous basement.

CBS 2's Dana Kozlov reports.

The central set of the memorable movie – a basement where young headbanger Wayne (Mike Myers) and his friend, Garth (Dana Carvey), taped a cable-access show — has been re-created for the anniversary. The film made Aurora more of a nationally known city.

On hand this week is "Wayne's World" co-star Tia Carrere, who thinks the film that served as her breakout is still relevant.

"It's about underdogs striving to make their dreams come true with their best friends," she said.

Wayne's basement was carefully re-created to help kick off screenings of the film this week. And Carrere said she will be a part of the fun.

"It's this time capsule, but also it's timeless," she said.

There will be special screenings of "Wayne's World" across the Chicago-area on Feb. 7 and 8.
