Two SUVs Shot On I-57, No One Injured

(CBS) -- Illinois State Police have closed all of the southbound lanes of I-57 from 127th to Sibley as they investigate the shooting of two SUVs.

Illinois State Trooper Anthony Martino says they received calls at about 2:20 p.m. about multiple vehicles hit by bullets.

State police say shots were fired at two vehicles: an intended target and a second "almost identical" vehicle.

Bullets hit both vehicles, but no one inside was hit, police said. Both SUVs ended up at a gas station off the expressway.

Patricia Lipscomb was the unintended target. She was behind the wheel, approaching 147th Street, when a bullet pierced her rear driver's side door. She noticed a silver Chevy Impala speed off the Interstate, after the other SUV.

Despite her ordeal, she says she feels fortunate to be okay.

"I was blessed today," she says.

Lanes remain closed as troopers on the scene investigated, but outbound traffic finally started moving around 6 p.m.

Anyone who witnessed the shooting or has any knowledge of the shooting is asked to contact the ISP at 847-294-4400.  Callers can remain anonymous.
