One Dead After Tornadoes Rip Ottawa, LaSalle County
CHICAGO (CBS) -- One person died after tornadoes ripped through Ottawa in LaSalle County on Tuesday afternoon.
The Times newspaper of Ottawa first reported one person was killed in the southern part of town. CBS 2'd Ed Curran reports the deceased is a woman, but no further details were available.
The storms damaged a nursing home, but there were no immediate reports of injuries.
Officials tell WBBM Newsradio that a couple of people suffered minor head injuries, but everyone is otherwise OK.
In Ottawa, this home sustained damage.
Near Utica, a trained spotter reported a tornado near 12th Road and Interstate 80. There was reports of damage along Route 71.
A tornado warning had been issued for LaSalle County until 5:15 p.m.
Officials are assessing damage right now.
