84-Year-Old Woman Killed In Austin When Two Chicago Police Cars Collide; 10 Officers, At Least 1 Other Civilian Hurt

Chicago (CBS)--A dozen people were hurt, including ten Chicago police officers, in a multi-vehicle crash on the city's West Side, in the Austin neighborhood.

Around 10 p.m. Saturday, two Chicago police vehicles collided with several cars near Division Street and Laramie Avenue, police said.

The Chicago Police Department says officers were responding to an emergency call to assist other officers when the collision occurred.

It set off a chain reaction, which eventually impacted a blue car with four people inside.

Dwight Gunn says the matriarch of his family, 84-year-old Verona Gunn, was killed.

"She had internal bleeding, and they were not able to get her stable enough quick enough," he said.

CPD released a statement, which said:

"Our heartfelt condolences go out to the Gunn family over this devastating loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all affected by this tragic incident."
