    I can’t believe she still gets praise through the News knowing she spent the last 5 years being a drug addict. THIS is who our kids should embolize?

      What makes you so perfect and give you the right to judge her, because she faced trials and went through a turbulent time in her life does not mean she should not be acknowledged and condemend. I believe if God can forgive us for our sins and the bad choices she made people like you do not have the right to judge. I believe that we have a forgiving God and no one is perfect and never can say what she endured to make her turn to substance abuse. I believe Whitney contributed to music especially paved the way for young African American women to be acknowledge in the music business and if it was not for God sharing her to the world this probably would not have not ever happen. I remember when Whitney came out onto the scene and I remembered the good times of playing her music and hearing that amazing voice. I acknowledge her and believe in my heart that she should not be condemened for her mistakes, but always acknowledged for her talent and paving the way for women like Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce, Jordan Sparks, and Alicia Keys that are acknowledged today.

      Fred, you should be a shamed of yourself, no of us are perfect and I’m sure you have skeletons your closet. This is a woman that no matter what she went through, she always put God first. So let the lesson be to your children and any children, that you can do anything you want in your life just make sure that the decisions you make are from the positive that people do and not from the mistakes that they make. Think about all the positive things that have happened in ones life, bcus to tell the truth if you know anything about the law of attraction, one day you may be sorry you made that statement, My prayer is that you change you close mindedness bcus certainly there will be something that i’m sure your children will do that you will not like. Whitney fault that disease for years, the key word here is that she FOUGHT it…….Be blessed

    How lovely to be enabled to excuse oneself of personal accountability! In every case, this “disease” occurs due to bad choices and self-destructive behavior. Simply opt not to abuse drugs or alcohol, and be assured that you will never suffer from this so-called “disease”. What a blessing it would be if we had a similar option and certain assurance, rather than suffer from cancer, for example, no matter what precautions we may take.

        Thank you, REALITY. It is interesting that those who have disagreed with white-washing or ignoring the truth about personal accountability, ignoring poor decisions that Whitney made, which ultimately led to her untimely death, have impugned characters and questioned intentions of those of us, as much fans of Whitney as them, who note Whitney’s triumphs as well as her downfall, mourn her as they do, but also hope to make good of bad, so another mother might not bury their baby. How peculiar that the empathetic and sensitive ones call others names, insult them, because they dare to offer a dissenting point of view, just as valid as theirs.

    I believe that it is so easy for people to judge Whitney and many other celebrities, because we see the glitz, glamour, and fame. However, we probably will never experience how it feels to have the whole world looking at us under a microscope. Whitney had alot of pressures and battles in her life that she was dealing with and its easy for us to say what we would never do, but until you are in someone shoes don’t judge. I sincerely doubt when she began her career she ever thought she would even take a drug or drink. I am not making excuses or no one else is, but addiction is a disease and guess what we all make mistakes. However, I know in my heart God is forgiving and never against people for making mistakes. In addition, God is only perfect not people on earth and he never condemns us, because he knows that we are not perfect. Also, guess what Whitney is with our God resting in peace and do not have to worry anymore about stupid people ridiculing her for mistakes she has made in her life, because people are not perfect and God understands that.

    Such vitriolic attacks on this woman’s memory. Self righteousness, arrogance. Unbelievable. Interesting though it is that when Elvis died of an overdose of prescription drugs after years of decline and dissipation, there was not nearly the outpouring of viciousness that one sees on these boards regarding Ms. Houston. Unbelievable. Is it more reprehensible to see a black woman suffering from addiction than it is to witness a good ole southern boy suffering from the same affliction. Both Presley and Houston were great cross over artists who sacrificed much of their adult lives to bring pleasure to their audiences. Perhaps that was their true crime.

      Perhaps I missed it, though I have noted noted vitriol directed at Whitney Houston. Some disagree, though I have not noted anyone claim anything about you or others because they disagree with you. Anyone who truly loved Whitney Houston, anyone who mourns her, will tell you that her addiction caused her to go too soon. Her longtime fans (I among them) noted her triumphs and celebrated them, and they also noted her trials and ultimately, her downfall. We prayed for her to overcome addiction, and now we mourn and endeavor to make some sense of it to make good of bad. If that is “vitriol”, millions, I among them, are guilty as charged.

      You are correct about Elvis, but because there was no widespread access to computers or to discussion boards at the time of Elvis’ death (08/17/1977). Back then, Americans got news from radio, television or newspaper reports. The press tended to shelter Americans from details pertaining to the ugly truth about celebrities and other public figures, why comparing today’s press to the press of the 1970′s is akin to comparing apples to elbows. Americans also were not nearly as educated or savvy as they are today, nearly 35 years after Elvis left the building for the last time, about substance abuse or addiction. Though it would not serve your argument if you acknowledged them, more recent depictions of Elvis are inarguably far less flattering than ANYTHING noted here about Whitney Houston.

      Some of us, every bit as much a fan as you and thers were, choose to examine both sides of the coin, and if there is a lesson to be learned from Whitney’s tragic end, then teach it and pray that others may learn from it. As humble and maternal as Whitney Houston was, I believe that she would want it that way to save others from suffering, and to spare another mother, like her own, from burying her baby.
