A semi truck carrying 42,000 pounds of powdered milk jackknifed on the Dan Ryan Expressway Thursday morning, blocking the ramp to 47th Street for about an hour during the morning commute.
The holdups could be part of a coordinated effort to target men over social media, sources tell CBS 2.
The robberies all occurred in the 4700 block of South Ellis Avenue during various times of the day, police said. A seventh robbery was also reported about a block away in the 900 block of East 47th Street.
About 2:20 a.m., a 25-year-old man was shot multiple times as he drove his vehicle in the 400 block of East 47th Street, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His 26-year-old passenger was shot in the back and also suffered a graze wound to the neck, police said. He was being treated at Stroger Hospital.
Vicente Salgado, 39, is charged with first-degree murder, according to a statement from Chicago Police. Juan Martinez, 40, was standing outside with his girlfriend about 4:10 p.m. in the 2000 block of West 47th Street when the couple was confronted by Salgado, who stabbed Martinez multiple times, authorities said.
The shooting happened at 2:48 p.m. in the 300 block of East 47th Street.
