Fourth of July weekend shootings have left nine people dead — including a 7-year-old boy — and at least 53 others injured since Thursday evening.
Authorities responded to the barricade situation in the 4400 block of North Drake about 3:20 a.m., police said. It was not yet clear why police were originally called to the scene.
Most recently, a man was shot in the West Side Austin neighborhood. The 20-year-old was walking on the sidewalk in the 4600 block of West Washington Boulevard about 10:35 p.m. when he heard gunshots and felt pain, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital with a gunshot wound to his buttocks.
The 31-year-old driver was stabbed in the neck by a passenger who tried to rob him about 11:30 p.m. in the 4200 block of North Sacramento Avenue, Chicago Police said.
The man, 21, was in the 4400 block of North Bernard Street about 6:50 p.m., involved in an argument with another person, police News Affairs Officer Thomas Sweeney said. The other person took out a gun and shot him multiple times in the upper body.
The weekend’s most recent fatal shooting happened Monday night in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side, police said. About 7:50 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in the back and the leg in the 4900 block of West Erie, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he died.
