Former Mayor Jane Byrne Dies

Former Mayor Jane Byrne, the first and only woman to serve as mayor of Chicago, has died. Byrne’s daughter has told family friends her mother died at 10 a.m. at her Chicago home.

Aldermen Urge Airlines, Cargo Carriers To Stop Flights To Russia

A group of Chicago aldermen on Wednesday urged airlines and air cargo lines operating out of O’Hare International Airport to halt all flights to Russia, until it withdraws its troops from Ukraine.

City Council OKs Ban On Guns At Bars, Restaurants; End To City Gun Registry

Though aldermen acknowledged they expect the city will be sued for it, the City Council on Wednesday approved a measure to circumvent part of the state’s concealed carry law, and effectively ban guns at any business that serves liquor.

Aldermen Back New Limit On State’s Concealed Carry Law

Aldermen voted Friday to circumvent a major provision of the state’s concealed carry law, by voting to require all city businesses that serve liquor to ban guns on their premises.

Drug Dealer Assumed He Was Bribing Burke

An admitted drug trafficker assumed the $15,000 he allegedly paid two attorneys more than a decade ago was used in part to pay bribes to Ald. Ed Burke (14th) and others to get the zoning on his Southwest Side property changed to build apartments, according to a motion by federal prosecutors.

City Taking Steps To Collect Millions In Unpaid Water Bills

Mayor Rahm Emanuel said Thursday that he is actively going after $15 million in unpaid water bills owed to the city by four Chicago suburbs. He also promised to take another look at free water that the city supplies to various non-profit groups.
