Nearly a year after plans for a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market store generated an uproar in the East Lakeview neighborhood, those plans are officially set to go ahead.
A new plan calls for a Mariano’s Fresh Market grocery store, and as many as seven stories of apartments, at the long-vacant East Lakeview site where a Dominick’s store burned down more than six years ago.
Deer are commonplace in some places within the city limits, such as the North Park Village Nature Center or the forest preserves in outlying neighborhoods. But not in East Lakeview.
The organizer of the Facebook group dedicated to stopping a planned Wal-Mart store in East Lakeview took the group offline over the weekend, saying continuing the fight now is a “waste of time.”
