Five rail cars on a train were involved in the derailment near 95th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue, according to Chicago fire officials. Four of the cars rolled onto their sides, and one was tipping, Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said. All of the cars were empty at the time.
About 2 a.m., the 40-year-old was inside a lounge in the 7600 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue when at least two people entered the rear of the building and opened fire, striking the man in the chest, said police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer. The suspects then fled the scene.
