A measure to require many gas stations in Chicago to sell gasoline with a higher mix of ethanol stalled in the City Council on Monday, after a marathon Finance Committee hearing.
Finance Committee Chairman Ed Burke (14th) and Ald. Anthony Beale (9th) have called for a requirement that all Chicago self-serve gas stations carry E15, which they said could reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and might be less expensive than regular gasoline.
The gasoline used in most cars could soon have more ethanol.
A bill that would pave the way for ethanol-based E15 fuel in Illinois is rattling around the Illinois House.
