Thousands Make Pilgrimage To Des Plaines For Our Lady Of Guadalupe

Archbishop Blase Cupich joined thousands of Catholics in northwest suburban Des Plaines overnight, as they began an annual 36-hour celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe, to honor the patron saint of Mexico.

Mayor, Aldermen To Fast In Support Of Immigration Reform

The mayor’s office says the 54-year-old’s fast will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday when Emanuel speaks during an event at a church on the city’s South Side. He’ll be attending a Mass at St. Pious Church to mark the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Thousands of the faithful gathered in Des Plaines Monday for the conclusion of a two-day festival marking the day it is believed the Virgin Guadalupe appeared to a peasant in Mexico.
