A 27-year-old man was outside about 10:30 p.m. in the 4900 block of West Ferdinand Street when he thought he heard fireworks but realized he had been shot in the shoulder, police said.
A state trooper saw a vehicle connected with an earlier Hammond carjacking and notified Chicago police, who helped Hammond police chase the vehicle.
