Two men are claiming in a lawsuit filed Thursday that they were abused by convicted child molester and former priest Daniel McCormack while on a basketball team he coached.
Attorney Eugene Hollander said his client, a man now in his late 20s, will receive a settlement of $1.25 million from the church. The plaintiff in the lawsuit claimed McCormack abused him at the former priest’s first parish assignment, St. Ailbe Church, at 90th and Harper.
The three men all alleged that the Catholic Bishop of Chicago, the Archdiocese of Chicago and Cardinal Francis George were all negligent in the hiring and retention of former priest Daniel McCormack.
It didn’t take long for the Chicago Archdiocese’s release of confidential files on pedophile priests to lead to a new lawsuit, this one accusing a former priest and a former boy scout leader of molesting boys at the same church in the 1970s.
