The Twins broke loose for five runs in the fifth inning to break a 3-all tie.
Even in a ballpark where the Chicago White Sox have had success, the story was agonizingly familiar for left-hander Jose Quintana. Once again Quintana pitched well, holding the Minnesota Twins to two runs and six hits in seven innings. And once again, his efforts were for naught due to a dearth of run support.
Slumping outfielder Alex Rios snapped his bat over his knee after an eight-inning strikeout. Catcher A.J. Pierzynski broke a bat slamming it against the ground after an earlier strikeout. The Chicago White Sox are beyond frustrated with not driving in baserunners.
For the Chicago White Sox, this seemed like an appropriate All-Star break send-off — another lousy performance, another loss. For good measure, throw in some extra angst over Jake Peavy’s arm, too.
Justin Morneau will be placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sore left wrist and will miss Wednesday’s and Thursday’s games against the White Sox.
