The fatal shooting happened Thursday morning in the South Chicago neighborhood. Ramon Gartman, 33, was discovered unresponsive in the 8400 block of South Commercial at 11:48 a.m. with a gunshot wound to his face, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
Late Wednesday night, one man was killed and another man was injured in a shooting outside of a Logan Square neighborhood store on the Northwest Side, police said.
The 24-year-old was standing on a sidewalk about 5:20 p.m. in the 1300 block of East 75th Street when a gunman in a gray vehicle shot at him.
A west suburban man was killed in the most recent fatal shooting Wednesday afternoon in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.
About 10:25 p.m., the 28-year-old was stopped at a stoplight in the 7100 block of South Vincennes Avenue when a silver sedan pulled up alongside and the passenger opened fire, police said.
The most recent homicide happened about 8:30 p.m. in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood. A 36-year-old man was standing in the 100 bock of East 69th Street, when at least one person walked up and shot him in the back, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he later was pronounced dead.
About 1:50 p.m., a man was shot to death in Englewood, police said. Keith Stokes, 24, was riding in a vehicle in the 5700 block of South Morgan when another vehicle approached and someone inside started shooting. Stokes was shot several times in the upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:07 p.m.
A 16-year-old boy was wounded in the most recent shooting in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood on the South Side. A gray or silver truck pulled up near the boy in the 1100 block of East 72nd Street, and a male inside fired shots.
Two men, ages 31 and 35, were standing on a sidewalk Friday night in the 0-100 block of South Kostner when they heard gunshots and felt pain, police said. The older man, later identified as Michael Harrison, was shot in the abdomen and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
About 2 a.m., the 40-year-old was inside a lounge in the 7600 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue when at least two people entered the rear of the building and opened fire, striking the man in the chest, said police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer. The suspects then fled the scene.
he 28-year-old man and 47-year-old woman were found dead about 7:45 p.m. in the home in the 7100 block of South Ingleside.
Marcus Dee, 31, fatally shot himself after shooting 22-year-old Nadia Ezaldein in a domestic-related incident at the Nordstrom store at 55 E. Grand on Friday night, authorities said. Ezaldein, a seasonal employee at the store, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on Saturday afternoon.
Over the span of seven years, the same neighborhoods continued to log more homicides than the rest of the city.
The sizable drop in homicides in 2013 is great… as long as you don’t live in one of the neighborhoods that saw an increase.
Firefighters responded about 10:10 p.m. to the two-alarm blaze at the four-story apartment building on the corner in the 700 block of East 76th Street, Fire Media Affairs Cmdr. Frank Velez said. The fire was upgraded to a two-alarm by about 10:40 p.m.
