Cook County’s $25 Gun Tax Goes Into Effect

Gun sellers and owners haven’t been able to stop it, so a new $25-per-gun tax in Cook County went into effect on Monday.

County Approves Gun, Gambling, Cigarette Tax Hikes; Lower Sales Tax

The cost of smoking, buying guns, and playing the slots in Cook County will be going up next year, but the county is also getting rid of the final portion of the hated 2008 sales tax hike.

County Commissioners Back Gun, Cigarette, Gambling Taxes To Balance Budget

The Cook County Board Finance Committee on Friday approved $41.7 million in new tax levies, including a controversial $25 tax on the sale of a gun anywhere in the county, and a $1-a-pack increase in the cigarette tax.
