Toddler’s Death In Gary Investigated As Homicide

Nieyely Lopez died of “multiple blunt force traumatic injuries” she suffered at the intersection of Melton Road and Lake Street in Gary, according to a statement from the Lake County coroner’s office. She was taken to Methodists Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 9:45 a.m.

One Of Three Patient Deaths Tied To Holland Home Ruled As Natural Causes

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said it has determined 98-year-old Leon Krynicki died primarily due to heart problems. His hospitalization on Feb. 3 might have been due to over-medication, but the medical examiner’s office said the medication did not contribute to his death about one month later.

Three employees of a South Holland assisted living facility have been removed from their jobs, after an elderly woman died from an overdose of pain medication. Two other residents who were hospitalized the same day also have died, and understaffing might have been an issue.

Homicide Investigation Underway After Body Found Near Joliet

A citizen discovered the body of a black female in a field near Zurich and Brandon roads in unincorporated Joliet Township, according to the Will County sheriff’s and coroner’s office. Sheriff’s police are investigating the death as a homicide, but a preliminary cause of death was not released by the coroner’s office.

Police Investigate Infant Death, Fire In Kenosha

Kenosha police say a male suspect is in custody and being treated for smoke inhalation following the Tuesday evening incident. Police responded to a domestic violence report at the home Tuesday and found the infant with unspecified injuries. The child died at a hospital.

The girl was found around 8:30 p.m. Sunday in her home in the 3300 block of North Natchez Avenue. Investigators have not said how she died, or shy police were called to the home, but she suffered apparent trauma to her body.
