Ice Skating Rinks
Call it a small silver lining to an otherwise miserable winter: Cold temperatures mean the city’s outdoor ice skating rinks can stay open an extra weekend this year.
Ice skating rinks at seven parks across the city will open for the season Friday, with a brand-new eighth rink set to open next month.
Some people get into the holiday spirit by battling the throngs of shoppers for a deal on the day after Thanksgiving, while others get the feeling of the season by lacing up a pair of skates and gliding across a sheet of ice at their local pond, park or skating rink.
Whether you are as graceful as Michelle Kwan or a total disaster on skates, ice skating is a time-honored Chicago winter tradition. Plus, it is a ton of fun. Seriously, it is. Your kids will think so too.
