Oberman fought machine politics in his days at City Hall, and frequently clashed with former Mayors Richard J. Daley, Michael Bilandic, and Jane Byrne. He was also an ally of former Mayor Harold Washington before Oberman resigned in 1987.
Regional Transportation Authority board member William Coulson said former Metra chair Brad O’Halloran and director Larry Huggins sparked a clash with former CEO Alex Clifford over political hires at the agency.
A fourth member of the Metra board has now quit following the blistering criticism that the commuter rail agency has faced over the buyout of its former chief executive officer.
Former Metra CEO Alex Clifford said Wednesday he does not believe House Speaker Michael Madigan broke any laws by requesting a pay raise for a political supporter, but believes it was “an ethical and moral character flaw.”
The risks include a spike in fuel prices, severe snow or heat, a major derailment or a bridge failure.
On-time performance at Metra has slipped last year, and the commuter rail agency’s chairman, chief executive officer and board want something done about it.
