Animal-Hoarding Mom Hit With New Abuse And Neglect Charges

A west suburban woman was indicted Friday on 19 counts, including neglect, after her mentally disabled 14-year-old son died Sept. 8 in a filthy, insect-infested home filled with more than 100 cats and other animals.

It was an extreme case of animal hoarding. There were hundreds of animals living inside a Berwyn house. A teenager was found dead there and now, for the first time, the family is revealing why they never called for help.

A disabled boy who died in a squalid Berwyn home and his siblings had never had any medical care in most of their lives, a police report says.
