The CTA permanently closed its Madison/Wabash ‘L’ stop overnight. The station, built in 1896, was one of the oldest on the CTA elevated system. Demolition of the 118-year-old ‘L’ stop is the first step toward replacing it with a state-of-the-art station on Wabash between Madison and Washington.
The South Shore Line — which runs from South Bend to Chicago — beat the Chicago Transit Authority and Metra to the punch in becoming the first major rail line in the Chicago area to feature mobile ticketing.
Good news for riders of the South Shore and Metra Electric lines: service will operate during the NATO Summit in May.
Commuters riding the South Shore between Northwest Indiana and downtown Chicago could be hit with a 5 percent fare increase as soon as next month.
