200 Police Desk Officers To Go On Patrol

Facing one of its deadliest months in a decade, Police Supt. Garry McCarthy will announce on Thursday that 200 officers currently on desk duty will be put on the streets.

Interim Chicago Police Supt. Terry Hillard said Friday that patrol officers are the backbone of the department, so he’s moving 70 officers from specialized units to patrol and putting 400 plainclothes tactical and gang unit officers in uniform.
