A driver was seriously injured, and a South Side family was startled out of their beds, when the man crashed his car into a home in the Washington Heights neighborhood early Friday.
The driver, a 33-year-old man, was flagged down by a man in his 20s in the 5500 block of South Peoria Street about 12:05 a.m., police said. When the driver stopped, the man reached into the taxi, grabbed the driver’s cell phone and stabbed him in the arm.
Both men, 25 and 29, were at the corner of West 116th Place and South Peoria Street when they were shot about 1:30 a.m.
The lone fatality occurred Friday afternoon in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood on the South Side.
Police have resumed searching for a man suspected of raping two women and a teenage girl in Washington Heights early Wednesday, and hiding in another girl’s closet, after determining a “person of interest” they were questioning was not responsible for the crimes.
All of the attacks happened within a three-block radius in the Washington Heights neighborhood.
