An Indiana truck driver has been indicted on reckless homicide charges, in connection to a July crash on Interstate 55 that killed five people. Prosecutors said the crash was partly the result of the trucker being blind in his right eye.
An Urbana man who died Wednesday evening is the fifth person killed in a semi-truck involved crash on Interstate 55 last month that left three other people injured.
Prosecutors said Francisco Espinal-Quiroz was driving at least 15 mph faster than the posted construction zone speed limit at the time of the crash, and there was no evidence that he applied the brakes before the crash, although it was not clear if he fell asleep at the wheel.
A woman described by friends and family as a “supermom,” and another mom who was driving to work on her day off were among the five people killed Monday afternoon in a pair of crashes on Interstate 55.
