Police have seen a spike in the number of stolen cars reported on the Southeast Side for a number of months. On Monday, they discovered dozens of stolen vehicles at a scrap yard in the 3000 block of East 106th Street in the South Deering neighborhood.
It all started when the victim of a car theft happened to spot his car parked at Adelman’s Truck & Equipment, 3033 E 106th St. When police came to check it out, they found so many stolen cars they stopped counting.
Go big or go home, the saying goes. Some scrap-metal thieves are taking that expression to heart, police say. CBS 2’s Brad Edwards reports.
Police followed two would-be tree grate thieves to a recycling center on the West Side, where they found hundreds of city-owned tree and sewer grates, worth thousands of dollars.
