Illinois Democrats agreed to give some of Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner’s priority reforms a platform Wednesday but still voted them down in an exercise that could further fuel a politically charged standoff that’s expected to extend the summer.
For weeks, Beth Purvis’ role in the administration had been somewhat of a mystery. Not until after several inquiries from The Associated Press did the Rauner administration disclose that Purvis — a key member of the governor’s transition team — is now earning $250,000 a year to advise him on education policy.
The Illinois Senate has passed a measure that would strip the Lake County Clerk’s office of the power to supervise local elections, and hand it over to a new commission appointed by the county’s chief judge.
Illinois Republicans have tried again to make voters show a photo ID before voting, and the proposal was once again shot down by Democrats.
