Shortly after 7 p.m., the crew on the 57-foot tug boat “Bonnie G. Selvick” tried to turn the boat around while headed south on the river near the 106th Street Bridge.
The tugboat Kimberly Selvick was towing two barges from Montrose Harbor to the Calumet River shipyards Monday afternoon when it hit rocks near 39th Street Beach, amid windy and wavy conditions.
Entombed at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean in an upended tugboat and dressed only in boxer shorts, Harrison Odjegba Okene begged God for a miracle.
A half dozen tugboat crew members are safe Thursday morning, after being involved in an accident in the Chicago Sanitary and Ship Canal.
The barges are gone but the tug’s still stuck on a shoal.
