Finally the weather breaks, the flowers start to blossom and the snow is gone for the season. Spring is back again, and you want to make sure you are styled for the season. Now that you don’t have big puffy coats and heavy winter boots to hide yourself in, you may have to relearn what it’s like for your clothing and accessories to be front and center all of a sudden. Spring is your chance to shine with your clothing, makeup and accessories. So, what should we all be looking for this spring? What wardrobe pieces can carry over into the new season? Amanda Romano, a manager at Trends, a popular Oak Park upscale consignment shop, has some tips for staying stylish this spring.

Spring is a time for color. What colors and styles will everyone be looking for this Spring?

“2013 will be the year of the confident, smart, sexy woman. Spring fashionistas will be looking to develop a unique, personal sense of style. We will see one-of-a-kind statement pieces in colorful but more subdued tones. While 2012 was the year of jewel tones and sequins, 2013 will be the year of “structured elegance” featuring saturated watercolor tones. Look for blue, blue and more blue in every hue and pattern (especially polka dots and stripes).”

Many shoppers are on a budget. What trends from the past will be returning for Spring 2013?

“In the past few years, we have seen a transformation in the way women think and feel about fashion. Women are more confident in their own sense of fashion and are not afraid of blazing their own trail. What was old is new again. Think Audrey Hepburn or Grace Kelly — a graceful feminine silhouette with just a hint of “naughty.” Look for a tighter bodice with a loose flowing skirt that hits just below the knee.”

Look for watery blue pieces this year, and if you are on a budget, go with accessories like scarves and jewelry. And think graceful 1950’s classic feminine as you put your wardrobe together. You want your look to be relaxed, elegant and confident. Remember, this season the popular color is blue, in multiple shades but especially the watery shades that remind you of the blue of Lake Michigan or your favorite ocean vacation. Complement your look with equally delicate-looking makeup like soft mascara and lip gloss. Don’t forget that here in Chicago, difficult weather sometimes comes back in the early Spring, so keep your chic rain jackets and accessories handy in case you need to make it back to your car in a sudden storm. Refer back to these terrific tips for Spring style, and don’t forget to make sure your personality comes out in your wardrobe. Let your Spring 2013 be effortlessly beautiful and make it your season to shine!
