6 Ways To Laugh In Chicago

Second City

Second City

The best comedy shows are the ones where the actors have to fight their own laughter on stage. At every show I attend, at least one actor's face turns beat red and their bottom lip starts to scrunch up until they are able to move on to the next scene. There is a reason Second City has been around for over 50 years, and that is because they never fail to disappoint. The shows run long enough to ensure that every Chicagoan has had an opportunity to see it. I do my best to never miss a show and so should you.

Dick's Last Resort

ATTENTION all diners at Dick's Last Resort: do not expect fair and courteous treatment from the people who work here. Be prepared to be laughed at, made fun of, ignored, asked to do something inappropriate, and wear a big hat on your head with something derogatory written on it. Don't be offended, it's all in fun and giggles. And, above all, don't say I didn't warn you.

Don't be that person who shows up at the karaoke bar, picks a high noted song and actually belts a tune like Christina Aguilera. Also, don't be that couple who likes to rock out like Kid Rock and Cheryl Crow. I need you to, quite literally, suck at singing and make a fool out of yourself. This is what makes us all laugh. And at Blue Frog, I can always find exactly what I need to make it an evening full of laughter with all of my favorite people.

Oh my, these divas are lovely! Grab your girlfriends (or girly guy friends) and head out for a drag queen show you can't experience anywhere else except a big city like Chicago. The bombshells perform nightly shows every 20 minutes, from 7:00 PM to midnight. The Kit Kat Lounge & Supper Club's gorgeous divas welcome any group and are sure to keep you entertained the whole evening. Just be sure not to upset the ladies, because they come with an attitude!

Zanies

Zanies Comedy Club is set up just as all comedy clubs should be: cheap, intimate and never dull. Its venues (three in the Chicagoland area) are legendary and almost every major comedian has left his mark on their microphones. Try not to get too uncomfortable with Uncle Lar's dirty jokes, and yes, it's ok to laugh at them even though that angel on your shoulder is frowning at you. Be sure to bring your good friends, as the comedy will keep your laughter rolling for the next week at least.

Bye Bye Liver

SOCIAL! Everyone who hears that yelled across a bar knows exactly what to do. Chances are you've even played a drinking game with this expression as well. If you enjoy these games, Bye Bye Liver is the place to be. It is a drinking game within a comedy show where skits are acted out displaying what happens when guys and girls get slightly intoxicated, for lack of a better word. It is a little bias towards the male because girls allegedly become more dramatic and "crazy" while drinking. As if! The more I drank, the more I was just irritated with my boyfriend laughing at the jokes….

Oh, lighten up. I'm just kidding.
