If you’re into one-stop shopping then one of Chicago’s many department stores are the way to go. Some of the stores below, like Target, will truly let you stock up on anything from groceries to clothing. Others, like Bloomingdale’s Home Store, are a little more specialized. - Lisa Koivu

Nordstrom

520 North Michigan Avenue
Chicago, IL 60618
(312) 464-1515

Nordstrom is easily one of Chicago’s most popular shopping destinations for those looking for designer clothing and shoes. The store on Michigan Avenue is enormous and almost always packed. Keep an eye out for their sales when you’ll find the best prices – and the biggest crowds.

Saks Fifth Avenue

700 North Michigan Avenue
Chicago, IL 60611
(312) 944-6500
www.saksfifthavenue.com

Shoppers in search of very high-end designer items must stop by Chicago’s own Saks Fifth Avenue. Even if you don’t have a dollar to spend Saks makes for some great window shopping and dreaming. You’ll find an impressive selection of designer items here and shoe lovers will not want to miss checking out their designer shoe collection, which includes the names Christian Louboutin, Valentino, and Manolo Blahnik. The Men’s Store is located on the other side of Michigan Avenue.

Nordstrom Rack

24 North State Street
Chicago, IL 60602
(312) 377-5500

While you can normally find great deals at Nordstrom during their semi-annual sales, stop by Nordstrom Rack during the rest of the year to find fantastic sales on your favorite brands. While the shoe section is disorganized, at best, and will take some work to go through the vast selection, you can often find some very high-end designers at non-designer prices.

Target

1154 South Clark Street
Chicago, I 60605
(312) 212-6300
www.target.com

There are quite a few Targets in Chicago, but what makes this one special is it boasts two full levels of shopping and includes a fully stocked grocery store. Parking is in a free garage, and with so many other retail locations nearby you won’t have to go far to complete all of your shopping!

Bloomingdale’s Home Store

600 North Wabash Avenue
Chicago, IL 60611
(312) 324-7500

Stop by the Bloomingdale’s Home Store for no other reason than to check out the amazing architecture. And then stay to check out the home items you won’t find anywhere else, as this location is filled solely with items to make your home look beautiful.

Macy’s

111 North State Street
Chicago, IL 60602
(312) 335-7700
www.macys.com

This Macy’s on State Street is the site of the original (and now defunct) Marshall Field’s. While the merchandise has changed a bit since the days when Marshall Field’s inhabited the space, it’s still worth stopping by and checking out the huge assortment of items at Macy’s. Thankfully you can still pick up a box of Chicago’s own Frango Mints here. The Christmas-time window display is always impressive and worth a trip downtown, but you may also want to make a reservation for the famed Walnut Room and see the stories high Christmas tree that’s in the middle of the restaurant.
