Best Fall Sports Leagues For Kids In Chicago

While the early days of fall are upon us, it's not too late to find a fall sports league for your child in the Chicago area. From soccer to dodgeball, there are plenty of fall sports leagues your child can join so he or she can learn the fundamentals of a sport or improve basic skills. Basketball At South Side YMCA Of Metro Chicago

Located in Chicago's Woodlawn neighborhood, South Side YMCA of Metro Chicago has a basketball league scheduled for later this fall. Children who participate in the league can learn the fundamentals of basketball while learning how to play on a team. The league starts the week of October 18, 2014, and runs through May 2, 2015. Games start on January 5, 2015, giving your child a lengthy season to learn and play basketball. The South Side YMCA offers other sports leagues, including flag football, and clinics for volleyball and soccer.

Traditional fall sports like soccer and volleyball are fun, but if your child is looking for something different, then consider looking into the dodgeball program at Ridge Park. The program is available for children between the ages of seven and 12, and the fun starts September 19, 2014. The program runs until November 28, 2014, and participants learn how to play the game as well as how to work together on a team. Ridge Park offers other programs, including floor hockey, basketball and lacrosse. Other parks in the Chicago Park District also have dodgeball programs; just take a look at the park district's website for a complete list of programs.

Instead of soccer or football, consider registering your child for a floor hockey league at the Park District of Oak Park. Leagues are available at an assortment of age levels, and practice and games are held at schools in the area. The leagues have different start times throughout November. Just remember to scoop up a hockey stick, safety glasses and mouthguard for your child before the first day of practice; these items are also available for purchase. Registration for the floor hockey leagues is ongoing, so contact the park district regarding the availability of a particular program.

Does your schedule look wide open later this fall? Then consider registering your child for a sports fall league with We Got Game. The organization's upcoming schedule includes a number of leagues that start the week of November 3, 2014. Programs are available on Saturdays and Sundays during the day, and an after-school program on Mondays is also scheduled. Leagues for tennis, baseball and volleyball are available, and leagues are divided by age. We Got Game meets at Haas Park, in Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood. Families can register online via We Got Game's website or by mailing in a registration form available on the website.

With colder air just around the corner, you and your child might prefer a fall sports league that's held indoors. That's where Windy City Fieldhouse in Chicago's Bucktown neighborhood comes in, as it offers a five-on-five indoor soccer league for boys and girls. Classes are divided by age, with one section available for children ages five through eight, and a second section for children between the ages of eight and 11. While it's technically called a winter sports league, it starts on November 14, 2014, and ends February 6, 2015. Heads up: October 24, 2014, is the deadline for registration.
