Best Romantic Getaways On A Budget Near Chicago

After the fervor of the holidays has died down, January is generally spent getting back on track, recovering financially and physically from the joyous excess of the holidays. Once you feel like you've started getting rid of the extra holiday pounds and your bank account is back to normal, you might be ready for a well-deserved break and time to reconnect with your significant other. Last year we suggested our favorite Valentine's day getaway destinations near Chicago, but this year we're going to help you out without breaking the bank after it's just been mended.

Only an hour drive from Chicago, neither the Starved Rock Inn or the Starved Rock Lodge will be likely to break your bank. If you have a little extra, you could do a mini-splurge on one of the cabins on the park grounds. All guests have access to an indoor pool, hot tub and sauna, which are especially appreciated during the colder months. Although hiking the trails may seem like a summer activity, viewing the picturesque frozen waterfalls and winter wildlife can be especially romantic. There are year-round trolley tours and guided hikes if you don't want to venture out on your own. Afterwards have dinner at Elements Restaurant or unwind with a drink at the Back Door Lounge.

With a fireplace and a whirlpool tub in each suite, you may not want to leave the room to begin with. It's within walking distance to the quaint shops of downtown Geneva and as a bonus, if you visit during Valentine's weekend, you'll get to enjoy the free Sky Circus On Ice!, kite acts, ice and snow sculpting around the lake and other winter fun, all without spending a dime.

The park will be lit with luminaries and the walk will begin and end at the Watchtower Lodge where walkers can warm up by the fire and enjoy refreshments and music.
