Coolest Lent-Friendly Bars In Chicago

For those of you participating in Lent (or those of you who just enjoy a good fish fry!) -- this article is for you. Here are a few Lenten menus, fish fry specials and seafood options to try out this Easter season.

Fridays during Lent from now until March 29th, eat up at Barleycorn's all-you-can-eat fish fry. All-you-can-eat beer-battered cod with cottage fries, tartar sauce, malt vinegar and lemons ($13-$17, offered at all locations, prices vary by location). Additional fish-focused selections include a fried shrimp platter, a fried whitefish sandwich, a blackened salmon sandwich and a shrimp Cobb salad ($13-$16, prices vary by location). Note: the Wrigleyville location only offers the Friday Fish Fry and the fried whitefish sandwich.

Moe's caters their menu to diners during Lent by varying the regular menu with meatless options every Wednesday and Friday from now through March 29. Highlights include:

Caldo de Mariscos (seafood soup)
Shrimp, tilapia, seasonal vegetables, seafood broth ($4 cup/$6 bowl)

Tilapia y Camarones al Diablo
Pan-seared Peruvian tilapia, three jumbo shrimp, spicy diablo sauce, Spanish rice, beans ($12)

Halibut en Hoja de Platano
Grilled banana leaf-wrapped halibut, chipotle sauce, fried plantains ($14)

Tacos de Atun
Black peppercorn and sesame seed-crusted ahi tuna, spicy plum-wasabi sauce, lettuce, red peppers, flour tortillas ($14)

Tacos de Pescado

Grilled tilapia, jalapeno slaw, corn tortillas, mango salsa ($12)

Tacos de Camaron

Take advantage of the Lenten Friday specials at nana. Chef Ricardo Pineda features meat-free specials every Friday through March 29. Highlights include a pepper and egg torta; scrambled eggs with provolone cheese; chile de arbol aioli; a petite salad ($10); and a fried trout sandwich, with spicy sauce gribiche, bibb lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and French fries ($12). Specials are offered during breakfast/lunch service (9 a.m.-2:30 p.m.) and dinner service (5:30-9:30 p.m.).

Mac's and Tuman's both offer a Friday Fish Fry during Lent in addition to the regular menu. The $12 fish and chips dinner, which includes beer-battered cod with handmade chips and tartar sauce, is on offer from 5-11 p.m. Fridays through March 29.
