THE DEFENSE

Q: Do you have a nickname for your car?

A: Most people give their cars female names. I decided I was going to be different and give my car a boy's name. I decided to name my car after this cool, little, three-year-old named Drew. He always used to run around saying, "I'm Drew and everyone calls me Baby D." Everyone looks at me funny, like really you named your car Drew? And the answer is yes, I did.

Q: How did you acquire Drew?

A: It was January 2007. My father asked me to go to this dealership and look at some cars for him. I was like, really dad? Do you really need another car? So I went with my sister. We looked at Toyota RAV4s and the Toyota Highlanders. We test drove the cars, and came back, and told him what we thought. He said he was really considering the RAV4. Two weeks later he called me and told me that my car came in. I was so confused. I was thinking my car, what car? He told me that the car I went to go look at was actually for me. That was pretty sweet!

Q: Did you want a car beforehand?

A: Not really. I was away at college. I took public transportation all the time, so there wasn't a need.

Q: What made your father choose a Toyota?

A: My older sister's first car was a Camry. When she bought her second car, she gave me her Camry and I drove it to high school. I really enjoyed that car because it was comfortable and safe. My mother also had her Camry for 13 years. With upkeep and maintenance, maybe I can keep mine for as long.

Q: What are some of the features on your car that you like the best?

A: Even though I don't use it a lot, I love my sunroof. I really love my six CD changer and my speaker system. I love that if I ever need to take a nap, I can crawl into the backseat and layout because my seats recline.

Q: How was your first drive down to school after you received your car?

A: I drove the car down to Madison, Wisconsin. It took me about two and a half to three hours. I felt safe inside the car. Outside, not so much, because people drive so crazy. Other than that, it was OK.

Q: What did you do to keep yourself entertained, while driving down there?

A: It is very boring driving down there. All you see are a couple of cows and that's it. If I had a friend in the car with me, we would probably sing or talk about what happened during the break. If it was a bunch of us in the car, we would crack jokes all the way down there.

Q: What type of music do you play in your car?

A: Usually I listen to a lot of R&B, some hip-hop, and every once awhile, some jazz.

Q: Who is the artist that gets played the most in your car?

A: A lot of Drake. He has a lot of different types of songs, some mellow and some upbeat. There is a Drake song for every mood. He is the best of R&B and hip-hop.

Q: If your car had a theme song, what would it be?

A: It would probably be the song "Photo Shoot" by Gucci Mane. Because my friends and I are always taking pictures inside and outside of the car. Drew is kind of star, except when he's dirty. Then he tries to hide.

Q: Since you plan to keep your car for 13 years, do you have any rules for your car?

A: I try to do my regular maintenance, get regular oil changes, and make sure my brakes and tires are OK.

Q: Do you have other rules like no drinking or smoking?

A: I don't let people smoke in my car because it smells gross. I'm always in my car, so I'm always eating and drinking. I don't stop people from doing the same. I just ask that people wipe their hands afterwards. If you don't have anything to wipe your hands with, I have baby wipes. If you eat anything with a pungent smell, I will Febreeze Drew down!
