When compared to other destinations around the world, Vatican City may be small, but it still offers a unique variety of things to see and do. Measuring only .44 square kilometers, this city has a population of less than 1000, including the Pope himself. Even though it is small and sparsely populated, more than five million people made their way to Vatican City back in 2013. These travelers visited the city in the hopes of seeing the historic sites and experiencing the religious aspects of the city.

Also referred to as the Holy See, Vatican City is the seat for the Catholic religion and has been the home of the Pope since 1378. This city is home to many historical sites, informative tours and much more. Best Time To Visit

As with just about anywhere else in the world, tourism slows down in Vatican City during the winter months. Starting in late November through the end of February you will find that there are not a lot of travelers making their way to the Vatican. So, if you don't want the heavy crowds and do not mind the cold weather, these months are perfect for visiting. During this time, prices are also less expensive than during the summer months.

When trying to decide what day of the week to visit the city, keep in mind that the museums are closed on Sundays, with the exception of the last Sunday of the month. On the last Sunday of the month, museums are open in the morning and offer free admission, which means this day is generally very crowded. Fridays seem to be the best day to visit Vatican City, especially in the summer when museums are open at night (with reservations).

A vacation to Vatican City will take you on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure to where you can explore historic sites, dine in quaint restaurants and spend the night at unique bed and breakfasts. This is definitely a vacation you will want to try to make happen.
