Every well-known fashion figure from Nina Garcia to Tim Gunn tells you the same thing when it comes to building a great wardrobe, start with the basics. The soon-to-be Princess Catherine Elizabeth puts her spin on this classic approach, with a chic, less is more look. Here are a few ideas on how you can copy her style:

Diane Von Furstenberg

The LBD

Start with the form fitting LBD, which in Kate’s case is the Little Bold Dress. Try bright colors like blue, purple, red and green, or a patterned wrap. While you may not be able to snag Kate’s engagement dress from Issa (it’s been sold out everywhere since the November 16th wedding announcement), there are quite a few options here in Chicago. My favorite is Diane von Furstenberg Silk Jersey Wraps. Bloomingdale’s at the 900 Shops carries a huge variety of printed options and patterns ranging between $325-$385.

White House Black Market

Blazer

A staple every woman should have in her closet is a tailored blazer. Replicate Kate’s look by finding a tailored, neutral colored blazer that nips at the waist. This look is flattering on every body shape because it defines your waist and shows off a feminine figure. Pair it with the aforementioned LBD or casually over a t-shirt with jeans. White House Black Market has a large selection of blazers both casual and dressy. Two Kate-like favorites of mine this spring are the White Polished Twill Blazer $148 and the Black Elysee Peak-Collar Jacket $148.

Banana Republic Jeans

Denim

What’s more American than denim? Even though she hails from the other side of the pond, Kate’s often seen out and about in dark denim skinny jeans. Usually tucked into her black to-the-knee boots. My pick for skinny jeans are Banana Republic’s Fitted Skinny Dark Wash $89.50. Another favorite is Elizabeth and James Textile (available at Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus).

Cole Haan Pump

Pumps

While I’m a firm believer that a woman can never have too many pairs of shoes, it’s best to start with the basics. Like Kate, you should own a pair of classic black and nude pumps. They are elegant, go with everything from jeans to dresses, and elongate your ladylike legs. My go-to are Christian Louboutin Rolando Leather $695. For a more price friendly option try Cole Haan’s super comfy Air Talia Pump $198.

Burberry Trench

Trench Coat

A classic trench is a must for Kate’s wardrobe in misty London and a must-have for your collection. One of Kate’s favorites, Burberry, has a beautiful beige trench with a double leather chin strap that is absolutely stunning $1,595. Another option that’s a little more reasonable in price is London Fog’s tried-and-true Double Breasted Trench $99.98.

Maybe now little girls will want to dress like Kate rather than trollops. For that possibility alone, William should be King

I completely agree with you! Catherine is someone young ladies should be looking up to, and even if she thinks she is only making an impression in the UK, young girls from “across the pond” are starting to want to emulate her style as well, preferring to dress less like tramps and more in her sophisticated style! For William to have such good taste — and like Catherine says, for William to have been so lucky as to be dating (and now married to) her — he should be King for this reason alone, as you said!

I do consider all of the concepts you have presented in your post. They’re very convincing and will certainly work. Nonetheless, the posts are too quick for newbies. Could you please prolong them a little from subsequent time? Thanks for the post.
