Fumes Evacuate Southwest Suburban Industrial Building

FOREST VIEW, Ill. (CBS) - Emergency crews were dispatched early Tuesday to the scene of a hazardous materials scare in the southwest suburbs.

The cloud of noxious gas developed inside the W.R. Grace & Co. chemical plant, at 6050 W. 51st St. in unincorporated Forest View, according to police. Emergency crews were called at 3:10 a.m., after employees noticed the fumes.

All of the employees went outside to escape the fumes, but no one was sickened or hospitalized, police said.

Fire personnel from several surrounding communities responded to assist with the call, according to police.

Emergency crews remained on the scene as of 6 a.m. Motorists are advised to avoid the area of 51st Street and McVicker Avenue.
