Notre Dame's Williams Suffers Sprained Knee

(WSCR) - Notre Dame has already suffered numerous injuries to key players. After a disappointing loss to Navy, the Fighting Irish were hit with yet another injury.

Notre Dame nose guard Ian Williams has a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee and will miss the next 4-6 weeks.

The team disclosed the injury Tuesday.

Williams, a senior who anchored the defensive line and had 37 tackles this season, was injured in the third quarter of Saturday's 35-17 loss to Navy. An MRI taken Sunday revealed the injury.

He is the second standout Irish player to be lost this season. Tight end Kyle Rudolph underwent surgery to repair a torn hamstring earlier this month.

Sean Cwynar is expected to start in Williams' place. The Irish take a 4-4 record into Saturday's home game against Tulsa.
