Northwest Side Fire Displaces 5 Adults, 3 Children

CHICAGO (STMW) - Eight people, including three children, were displaced by a fire Thursday morning in the Hermosa neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

Firefighters responded to the 1700 block of North Keystone Avenue about 10:25 a.m. for a fire that started in the basement, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado.

Fire crews used three lines on the fire in the 2 1/2 story structure and extinguished the flames by 10:56 a.m., Rosado said.

Five adults and three children were in the building at the time, he said. All eight got out safely on their own.

They are being assisted by the American Red Cross, spokesman Gerry Holmes.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation late Thursday morning.
