There will be a new City Council next year. Several aldermen, are not up for re-election. For example, Alderman Toni Preckwinkle is the next Cook County Board President and Alderman Tom Allen is going to be a judge. Others, like Helen Shiller and Virginia Rugai simply chose not to run for re-election.

Elsewhere, there are some battles with a history to them. Third Ward Alderman Pat Dowell will face Ebony Tillman, the daughter of former Alderman Dorothy Tillman, whom Dowell ousted.

Former Alderman Darcell Beavers is running for the South Side seat she lost to Sandi Jackson, the wife of U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. But, there's a question whether Sandi Jackson's running for the aldermanic post or another.

Former Alderman Ambrisio Medrano, who pleaded guilty and did prison time in connection with the federal Operation Silver Shovel corruption investigation is once again running for the seat now held by Alderman Danny Solis.
